HP Converged Infrastructure Infographic

HP Intel C.I. Infographic_062513I’ve been remiss in updating my sites because I have been pretty busy over the past year, which is nothing to complain about. I’ve been fortunate to make a few good freelancing connections that have led me to produce fresh infographics in fields that are new to me. One of my 2014 goals is to be better about sharing these infographics and other work, so here goes:

HP Converged Infrastructure — Innovate your business to get ahead

This piece was done through another company for HP and Intel, though HP helmed the project. What was really interesting about this experience was that part way through, HP started to roll out a new identity system for its infographics. I think that alone speaks to how invested HP and many other organizations now are in the power of infographics to communicate in an accessible and interesting way.

Because of HP’s branding rollout, there were many rounds of sketches and revisions as everyone worked to understand and interpret the new guidelines. It was interesting for me to be on this brand-discovery journey with a whole group, hammering out what would work and what wouldn’t. As a freelancer you always have a bit of a learning curve when you take on a project with a new client because all the branding is new to you. Some brands are very specific and other brands are more loosely defined. I think most graphic artists would tell you that any artist worth his or her salt can produce strong work whether the guidelines are specific or not.

In the end, I believe everyone was pleased with the piece and it became a sort of stepping-stone that helped others interpret the new guidelines. And that’s pretty cool.
